LUBAO, Pampanga—More than 400 barangay health workers (BHW) in this town joined a fun-filled day that formed part of the town’s observance of the National Women’s Month.

Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab led the celebration that offered free services like back and head massage, haircut and coloring, manicure and pedicure, dental cleaning, lectures on breast cancer and diabetes, and live entertainment.

This was the second year that the LGU hosted the program for the BHWs, whom Mayor Cayabyab credited for the town’s being adjudged as one of the leading implementors of the government’s campaign against tuberculosis.

“This is but a small token of our appreciation to you (BHWs) for your selfless service to our town. We can never repay your sacrifices,” the mayor told the health workers.

Doctors Harvey Balucating, Eugene Nicdao and Anne Macaspac were also present to support the activity. They were joined by Municipal Administrator Elizalde Bernal, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Rita Rose Magsino and Councilor Carlos Y. Carlos II, Sangguniang Bayan committee on health chairman.

Pamela Matias, of the Municipal Health Office, said Mayor Cayabyab instructed their office to look after the health of the BHWs, who themselves are exposed to health risks due to the nature of their jobs.

Free medical consultations, including laboratory examinations, will be provided to the BHWs, Matias said.
