LUBAO, Pampanga–The municipal government here has perked up its nutrition program benefiting mostly underweight pre-school children in this town.
Chaired by Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab and Councilor Carlos Y. Carlos II, the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) lined up programs to identify and serve pre-school children who are in need of nutritional intervention.
On April 6, “Supplementation ni Mayor MY” benefited 133 indigent underweight pre-school children with free supplement of milk, vital minerals ferrous sulfate and ascorbic acid syrup. The program will give the supplements for three consecutive months to the children-beneficiaries.
There was also free hemoglobin, hematocrit and blood typing for all the beneficiaries.
Underweight pregnant women will likewise be given milk supplements until four months after they give birth.
The launching of the nutrition program for pregnant women was attended by Vice Mayor Robertito Diaz and Councilors Carlos and Jay Montemayor.
On April 16, 200 pre-school children belonging to poorest of the poor families were afforded fluoride treatment in the program dubbed “Unang Ngipin Patibayin…MY Fluoride Treatment”.
Beneficiaries are between children aged six to 59 months and who are considered underweight. Blood-typing and hemoglobin & hematocrit screening were also conducted for the beneficiaries.
The children will also provided with ferrous sulfate syrup and Vitamin C for three months. Iodized salt and P200 transportation allowance were also distributed to the beneficiaries.
In both programs, arrozcaldo with chicken and egg plus puto was served.
The program was made possible thru the support of the Public Health Dentists of Lubao 3 Rural Health Units–Dr. Mary Ann Macaspac, Dr. Isabelita Reyes and Dr. Gregorio Macaspac–who did the fluoride application.
Present were Administrator Elizalde Bernal, Councilors Carlos and Gonzalo Tungul, Dr. Reynaldo Alipio and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Lubao.
