Lubao LGU releases P4-M for folk’s Philhealth coverage

LUBAO, Pampanga–The local government unit here has allocated close to P4 million to cover for the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) coverage of some 2,741 families here. Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab tasked the municipal health office to identify poorest of the poor families to receive P1,200 each, representing half of their premium payments for a whole-year Philhealth insurance coverage. Municipal Administrator Elizalde Bernal, along with Municipal Councilor Carlos Y. Carlos and MHO officials and staff, visited the town’s 44 barangays last week to distribute the Philhealth cards to the beneficiaries. Mayor Cayabyab said the health coverage would help residents to defray costs from hospitalization in both public and private hospitals. In government medical institutions, Philhealth covers almost all the expenses incurred for every hospitalization. “These Philhealth cards will cushion the impact of medical expenses on the poor who would like to avail professional health services. This means they will not just try to self medicate and instead go seek immediate medical attention when they are sick,” Cayabyab said.
