800 Summer Job Beneficiaries receive DOLE-shared salaries

By Albert B. Lacanlale

LUBAO, Pampanga—Some 800 beneficiaries of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) from this municipality recently received their salaries amounting to P2,751,680.

The amount, according to Raquel Lugtu, Lubao Public Employment Services Office (Peso) manager, represented the remaining 40 percent of the beneficiaries’ salary for the 20-day work program. It came from the share of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

The other 60 percent of the SPES participants’ salary was shouldered by the local government unit here and was released in June. It was pegged at P4,127,520.

The distribution of the salaries was led by Mayor Esmeralda “Esmie” G. Pineda, along with Vice Mayor Jay Montemayor, Councilor Emmanuel Santos and Dole Pampanga chief Arlene N. Tolentino.

The release of the last 40 percent was delayed due to the revision in the design of cheques from the repository bank, Land Bank of the Philippines.

In her speech, Mayor Pineda said she was planning to increase the number of SPES beneficiaries next year.
