LUBAO, Pampanga—Persons with Disabilities (PWD) from various barangays in this municipality received rice and goods from the local government in celebration of the 42nd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NPDR) Week.

Mayor Esmeralda G. Pineda tasked the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office under Marilou L. Delos Reyes, to spearhead the distribution of goods at the Pineda Sports Complex.

Some 150 indigents with hearing, orthopedic, speech, mental, or visual disability benefited from the program.

Each of the beneficiary received a pack of powdered milk, 1 can of biscuits, 3 cans of sardines, 3 cans of corned beef, and half cavan of rice.

According to MSWD Staff Erwin Meneses, the NPDR Week is originally celebrated on the third week of July but was moved by the local government due to COVID-19.

This year’s celebration, with the theme “Kalinga at Malasakit: Tugon Para sa mga Taong May Kapansanan sa Panahon ng Pandemyang COVID-19”, focuses on fulfilling the rights and basic needs of our fellow folks with disabilities, even during the pandemic.

Mayor Esmeralda G. Pineda said the LGU has always been supportive of programs benefiting PWDs.

Like the old the municipal building, the new town hall was constructed with facilities that cater to the needs of PWDs such as ramps, wider doors and elevator, that have all been screened to comply with the standards set by certain laws.
